In 2012, we launched New Balance Foundation International to expand grantmaking to the communities where we live and work outside of the United States. As our global presence continues to grow, we recognize our obligation and opportunity to support our neighbors, near and far.
Active Cumbria
Visit WebsiteActive Cumbria is one of 43 county sports organizations in England. Active Cumbria in collaboration with New Balance Foundation has introduced the 100 Mile Challenge youth running program as a cost‑effective way to help schools get children to meet recommended levels of physical activity. The aim of the program is straightforward: to have children complete 100 miles of physical activity during the academic year and feel more motivated, confident and able to get active.
China
Youth Development Foundation
The China Youth Development Foundation is committed to helping young people build capacity and to giving a voice to their interests. New Balance Foundation funds running clubs in rural areas and local schools for migrant workers' children in China with the aim of providing increased opportunities for physical activity and improving student health. The initiative also aims to connect physical education experts with teachers, social workers and volunteers, offering sports training courses and nutrition education to build a culture of health within schools.
Disaster Relief
The world has experienced many tragedies over recent years and, whether near or far, their impact has affected us all. While New Balance Foundation focuses on its local communities, these tragic events compel us to offer compassion and help to those in need wherever they live. From September 11th to the Boston Marathon bombing, from the Asian tsunami to earthquakes in China, Haiti and Japan to hurricanes Katrina, Sandy and Maria and the COVID-19 pandemic, New Balance Foundation and New Balance Athletics, Inc. have pledged millions to relief and rebuilding efforts. New Balance Athletics, Inc.’s associates have also stepped up, making unprecedented personal contributions. In addition, the company continually provides in‑kind contributions to victims of disaster around the world.
American Red Cross Annual Disaster
Giving Program
New Balance Foundation has been in the American Red Cross Annual Disaster Giving Program since 2012. Our annual donation of $500,000 helps ensure that those who rely on support during times of disasters and other emergencies are able to receive it. In 2017, in response to the devastating hurricanes that affected so many communities in the United States, we increased our donation to $1 million, and now we serve as an Annual Disaster Giving Program Member. This is a signature national giving program composed of donors that give substantially to support American Red Cross Disaster Relief.
